Ed M. Fjordbak, J.D.

Chief Compliance Officer

Ed’s short career in engineering at Collins Radio was interrupted by a request to do one year’s service to the community with Communities Foundation of Texas. During his 32 years with Communities Foundation of Texas, it became the fastest growing community foundation in the U.S. and assets grew from $10 million to nearly $700 million.  It was comprised of over 800 separate funds and made grants in the high eight-figure range annually.  Much of that job dealt with managing donated assets, including interests in a wide variety of businesses and asset classes including: real estate, S corporations, foreign enterprises and patents.  He was named President in 1987.  After 32 years with CFT, Ed joined Texas Capital Bank, recently formed by one of CFT’s trustees.  As Sr. Vice President of the Corporate Banking Group, he focused on middle size businesses, and became banker for the newly formed Essilor Vision Foundation.  Paris-based Essilor, the largest maker of spectacle lenses in the world, asked Ed to help expand the foundation’s work around the U.S. so more kids could see well.  In 2009 Ed was named President and CEO.  When Essilor decided to take the Foundation global, it was time to move back to the financial world.  Ed joined former colleagues at Shamrock Asset Management.

A native of Dallas, he holds a BBA in Management, an MLA and Juris Doctor, all from SMU.  Ed served as Chairman of TACA, is honorary Consul for Norway, and has served on many boards including the Dallas Council on World Affairs, The Nature Conservancy of Texas, the Rotary Club of Park Cities Foundation, the SMU Dedman School of Law Executive Board, the Board of Governors of the Tower Club and the Woodall Rodgers Park Foundation.  He’s been knighted by King Harald of Norway, received a medal for his work on the environment by the Daughters of the American Revolution, and was named Fundraising Executive of the Year by the Association of Fundraising Professionals, is moderator of the Deacons at Highland Park Presbyterian Church, and enjoys climbing mountains near his Santa Fe home with his wife Sharon, a professor at SMU Dedman School of Law and UNT & UNT Dallas School of Business, and former intellectual property attorney.
